Electronic Press Kit: The Escapee

Q: Who do you play and what the story is about?

Devorah: My character is the Escapee in this one-woman show.  Escaping marriage seems to be her career, and every time, she’s managed to get away while leaving people wanting more. She’s edgy and funny and not a little sexy for it.

Q: What was it like to work with the director who was 3,000 miles away?

The Escapee contemplates insanity.

Devorah: I didn’t really think too much about where Stephen was because he’d already been a capable coach before I’d started this project. Moving devices around so he could see was the only change. Stephen is fun. Because he has neat ways to explain problems, you stay focused on what needs fixing over personal feelings. Generally, I can handle meaner critics, but it’s nice not to have to.  He’s sort of the Devil on your shoulder.

Q: What’s it like being part of a repertory company of many actors on film and TV?

Shane Lewis, Debbie Hartner, Pry’ce James, KBaby Nate, Katrina Wiskup, James Young and anyone I missed are all very capable actors. The skill level is high and no one is pretentious. There’s room for everyone to be great, so no one is really competing as much as creating and urging others to do the same. We all want to do well, and yet we also have an attitude of “If you look good, I look good.” That spirit keeps us focused on the product, which is priceless.
